murray gold motivates my friday night studying
me: Dickens was the 19th century's Steven Moffat. Popular, serialized, shocking, funny, with a social agenda. More progressive than many writers but still woefully sexist and racist. Dickens invested the serial story form and the Christmas special. People in the U.S. pirated his work extensively, to his disgust. Both openly disparage critics and emphasize their prowess publically. WHAT IF DICKENS IS STEVEN MOFFAT AND THE DOCTOR BROUGHT HIM HERE TO WRITE THE PAST TWO SEASONS OF DOCTOR WHO?

Unpopular Opinion time: I like Elizabeth Gaskell...
notunlikethecomet: hernosestuckinabook: I know Elizabeth Gaskell isn’t writing at exactly the same time but they are similar. Don’t get me wrong, I like Pride & Prejudice but North & South has strikes and workers and conflict between classes. I find that Austen lives in her little bubble and hardly any of that is seen. Soldiers are just there for love interests. War is barely...

TRUE STORY
i watched mrs. doubtfire at least thirty times as a kid and didn’t understand that frank and jack were gay, or that the whole point of the movie was “hahahah isn’t it hilarious that this guy is in drag and no one can tell.” idk if my parents really knew either.

The Revolutionary Case for Capitalism by Dr. Eric Daniels Wednesday, September 28th at 7:30pm 2650 Humanities Despite capitalism’s enormous success in producing material abundance and political freedom, it faces a crisis—one that may lead to its demise. Capitalism is perishing because...

And I saw something else under the sun: In the place of judgment—wickedness was there, in the place of justice—wickedness was there.  I said to myself, “God will bring into judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time to judge every deed.”

a study of being alone
in many ways, the project before me now is to learn how to be alone; to learn how to be satisfied with the rain falling outside my window, with the casual coffee shop politeness of the person who i stretch my arms out and graze accidentally after closing another .pdf, with my cat’s tender breath on my face in the morning. after thursday afternoon, my weekend stretches to tuesday morning,...

mestizarate: whenever my dog sees that i’m stirring in bed after waking up from a nap he comes next to my bed, smiles at me and then breathes directly in my face. which is kind of gross because his breath is a little stinky. i love him. i realized yesterday that the second sound i hear every day after my alarm going off is the chirruping of my cat, who hops up on the bed for me to pet her

in the south, in seminars, we say “i’m going to piggyback off of what [fellow student] said,” when you are going to sort of one-up and/or expand a comment someone else just said, which is probably just fake politeness because we all know what’s going on when someone says that. up here, people says, “i’m going to telescope that, Neil, and say [insert smarter...
